Managing behaviour positively
This course aims to help staff promote good behaviour in their pupils in a positive way. It suggests strategies, both for encouraging good behaviour and reducing bad behaviour, and looks at ways of judging how effective these strategies are. A positive approach to behaviour management can go a long way to reducing the stress levels of staff and pupils alike. The course will be useful to:
- staff with responsibility for pupils - teachers, teaching assistants and midday supervisors
- administrative staff who have contact with pupils
- a staff group who want to revise their school’s behaviour policy and develop a consistent and effective approach
The basic principles of positive behaviour management apply to all ages. The course offers examples for both primary and secondary staff.
The course is divided into four modules:
- Looking at behaviour management
- Encouraging good behaviour
- Responding to challenge
- Making sanctions work
You will develop and try out new strategies. At the end of each module, you will be asked to briefly assess your current practice. You can use these assessments to develop priorities for action.
